The Surrey Leadership Youth Council (SLYC) is proud to present a Youth Speak Up Workshop. This workshop will explore the transition out of high school and the stressors/anxieties youth may experience during this time. Through a video presentation and group discussion, participants will have an opportunity to ask questions to a panel of individuals who have successfully navigated this transitional time.

Take a tour of the online gallery of visual art created to raise awareness of the proper use and disposal of face masks. The project was organized by preteens as part of the Peer Mentorship program. Join artist Josh Neu from the animation collective Flavourcel for this ‘flavourful’ introduction to hand-drawn animation. Follow along and learn how to prepare your own simple loop animations using a single sheet of paper, drawing tools, a camera, and video-editing software.

Get ready for the Surrey Libraries Youth Writing Contest! Linda Xia will discuss strategies and techniques for writing believable characters and dialogue. You’ll also practise writing exercises that you can build on after the workshop.

Are you an aspiring writer? Join Linda Xia to discuss the different kinds of publishing and hear her experience working with hybrid publisher New Degree Press. She’ll also share general tips for preparing your manuscript for publication.
