What is the first thing that comes to mind, when you read the word "volunteer"? Do you think of your local food bank and the volunteers that line up in the cold, harsh winter, distributing food to the needy? Do you think of the volunteers who spend their summer afternoons at the local recreation centre, coaching the U-10 soccer team? Or do you think of a high school student, filling out his scholarship application and his volunteer hours, trying to gain entry into a prestigious university?

With January winding up, it’s safe to say that we’ve all settled into our new school schedules. A new year brings high expectations, harder work, long nights up awake, and piles of homework as an extra bonus! Whilst all this havoc, it can become difficult to keep up with all our work and attain our goals. Here are some easy, yet effective ideas that you can adapt into your lives to help pave an easier school life for yourself!

On Wednesday, April 1, 2009 Semiahmoo Secondary held a Volunteer/Employment Fair for its students. Many non-profit organizations and businesses were there to tell the students about upcoming volunteer and employment opportunities.

PSST attended this event to tell students about the organization and about our volunteer opportunities. The PSST table gave away Universal Music swag, had a contest for students to enter, and gave information out about the organization and volunteering with us. We had around 150 students enter our contest! 

School started long ago, your stressed all day, too tired to do anything. Here is 10 ways to stay active during this hard time.

The Art Institute of Vancouver has held a spring break camp for students interested in the artsy side of the world. For four days, Grade 11 and 12 students from all over Canada will experience what it's like to take a course at AiV. This year, there were 600 students in total who participated, even one from as far as Nova Scotia!

It’s finally here, the final five months till graduation. I know what you’re thinking. Time to kick back, relax and take the final five in strides; after all, you’ve worked so hard for the last four and a half years, and you definitely deserve a break. Besides, it’s not like Universities are going to rescind your acceptance if your grades make a little slip.

Recently my social studies 11 teacher talked about Canada’s most famous stars in 1920’s. In 1920s, which is after the Great War I, people became relaxed and happy trying to forget about the dark days-war period-and more and more people looked on the entertaining things for themselves such as movies or songs.
