How To Beat The Winter Cold
Oh the weather outside is frightful... Feeling the cold coming?? I am. I'm not exactly a winter person; so I think I'm going to stay inside this winter. But, if you really have to go outside, here are some tips on staying warm.
The Right Jacket
- The best jacket is one that's waterproof. It won't get wet on the inside while you're making snow angels.
- Make sure that the collar stays close to your neck. That way, snow can't slide down you neck. A scarf would also help snow from sliding down. Also, make sure the sleeves close around your wrists for the same reason. It'll stop you from getting wet sleeves.
- Try to find the warmest one. Down feather jackets work really well. Make sure it has a hood!
Fingers and Toes. Pay close attention, because if these get frostbite, you can get gangrene, which is not at all pleasant. Protect these by wearing thick socks and gloves. Many people have gloves made of synthetic fibres, but those will get wet very fast. I recommend leather, or another type of glove that is a bit more water-resistant.
This one is obvious: Snow boots!! Make sure they fit well. People's feet grow about 1 shoe size each 6 months, so now is the time to check and be sure that they still fit well. If they don't, you better start looking for some more shoes!
Pants. Waterproof pants are the best, but thick fleecy ones work well, too!
Other Warm Accessories:
- Leg warmers. If you're going to school (especially if you're a girl going to a private school, brrr!!), you could always just use leg warmers to keep the cold away.
- Scarves. Fashionable and warm! The thicker, the better.
- Headscarves. Good for using as a hair band and for keeping those ears warm!
- Hats. Baseball caps are good for keeping falling snow away from your face, but they don't get any points for keeping your head warm. Decide on what type of hat you want to wear depending on the weather. You could layer a headscarf with a baseball cap.
Speaking of layers, layering warm items will keep you cosy.
Happy holidays!
