Ryan Sheckler Gets Some Air Time
He is a professional skateboarder, head of his own merchandise business, and is in his second season of his successful MTV reality show, and he is only eighteen-years old. Born in San Clemente, California, Ryan Sheckler has been skateboarding ever since stumbling upon his dad's skateboard at eighteen months and started doing tricks at the age of six. At thirteen years old, he was the youngest skateboarder to win Vancouver's own Slam City Jam.
Since turning pro at age 14 after placing fifth at the Globe World Cup in Australia, he has accomplished more than the average teenager; he was the youngest pro skateboarder to win the 2004 X Games, he continuously won first in the Dew Action Sports Tour in 2005, and Sheckler even developed his own trademark skate trick called the "Sheck-lair". Being sponsored by Red Bull, Etnies, Volcom, and many other infamous companies makes him a name known to all. You can say that he is living the dream most boys (and some girls) fantasize about.
Even with a busy skating schedule, he still remains down-to-earth; he strays away from the partying Hollywood scene and doesn't let himself get caught up with the crazy shenanigans "so-called" celebrities get into. His MTV reality show, called "Life of Ryan", is not just about his skateboarding career, but also on the other angle of being a normal teenager.
Already in its second season, hanging out with his close friends, being a caring brother to his two younger brothers, and on the constant mission to find his ideal girlfriend are only some of the subjects that can be expected in each episode. He also portrays himself as a good role model to teenagers in many ways; by handling his parents' divorce in a mature matter, like supporting his younger brothers when they need him or just simply letting his parents know how he feels, allows other teenagers in his position to relate to him and look up to him in a positive way.
If you never heard of Ryan Sheckler before, there's no doubt that you'll be seeing more of him. He's been a cameo in movies, like "Grind" and "MVP 2: Most Vertical Primate" and will be in a skateboarding movie called "Street Dreams" written by Rob Dyrdek. He has done his part in the community by participating in the "Make-a-Wish" Foundation with his Plan B Team and is currently donating his 2003 Range Rover to the Children's Cancer Research Fund.
Ryan Sheckler is definitely someone you should look out for; he consistently progresses as a skater, continues to inspire, and his fan base (particularly in the teenage girl category) grows by the minute and with a cute face like that, how could you not love him?
