Love – The New "In" Thing

“I think I’m in love.”

“Oh that’s great. How long have you been going out?”

“Two weeks but it feels like it’s been much longer.”

Why is it that now while walking down the halls of any high school you will hear the word “love” used countless times? The word has lost much of its value and I constantly hear teens use it to describe the way they feel about their significant other when they barely even know them. I’m not saying this is the case for everyone because I’m sure many people do mean it when they say it but the vast majority of teens don’t accept the true value of this little four-letter word.

The whole concept of love has been skewed and because of how often we hear it, naturally it has not become as big of a deal to pronounce your love to someone. It may be that your boyfriend just told you that he loves you a month into the relationship and you feel the need to say something back. Or you’re unsure of how you feel and “like” just doesn’t seem to describe the way you feel. Whatever the reason, love is becoming a great substitute to describe those feelings.

People are saying that they “love” someone whom they have only gotten to know for a short amount of time, someone who is still pretty much a stranger to him or her.

Instead of telling someone who you are still getting to know that you love them, try telling the ones who have been there for you through everything. These are the ones that mean the most to you such as your family, your pet dog, and your friends. Your boyfriend has only been in your life for a short amount of time but your family and friends have been there for you through everything. It’s important to let them know that you really do appreciate them and everything they do for you. These are the ones that mean the most.
