Twilight

Twilight, a New York Times Best Seller written by Stephenie Meyer that hit the shelves in 2006, is now a phenomenon on the big screen. Putting vampire gore cliche aside, Meyer's story is about a forbidden, yet romantic teenage relationship about a human, Isabella (also known as "Bella") Swan and a vampire, Edward Cullen, and how they overcome the obstacles that stand in their way. When Bella, a junior (grade 11 student) from sunny Phoenix, Arizona, moves in with her father in Forks, Washington, her life takes an unexpected turn when she meets the mysteriously alluring Edward Cullen in Biology class. Since that first encounter, her life has never been the same since.

Just like what I felt after reading the book, after watching Twilight, my life has never been the same since. I was one of the fortunate ones to get tickets for a sold-out advanced screening and for so many of the teenage girls, teenage boys (that were forced by their girlfriends), and adults young and old, it was a night reserved on everyone's calendars for months. The feeling of high expectations and excitement were radiating throughout the theatre as fans of this novel were about to see it for the first time.

Prior to this evening however, much talk about the casting left most fans a little hesitant about whether the actors and actresses chosen were "perfect" for the roles, but no one had a tougher time being accepted by the Twilight fan-base than Edward Cullen, played by Robert Pattinson. Orlando Bloom and Gaspard Ulliel were some of the considerations for this particular part, but after watching two glorious hours of Robert Pattinson, you could not agree more of their casting choice. I'd be lying if I said I did not smile every time Edward showed up on the screen. Especially the on-screen chemistry between Pattinson and Kristen Stewart as Bella, there was no doubt that every girl in that theatre wanted to be Bella in that moment in the meadow.

As for the movie overall, after overhearing enthusiastic conversations and praises as the credits rolled, it's safe to say that this portrayal of Twilight is close to what all of us imagined as we read the book. For those who haven't had the pleasure of reading Twilight, I suggest you do and get ready for one of the best book-turned-movies since J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series.

I rate this movie 4.5 bitten apples out of 5

Worth the wait

Twilight was absolutely amazing. I was sad that they left out a few details but I know they can’t include everything. Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart gave brilliant performances. This is honestly a movie I could watch over and over again. Great review! :D
