College Road Trip
3.5 stars out of 5
Although I expected more humour from Raven-Symone, College Road Trip didn't turn out to be as bad as I expected. For a movie that I was dragged into watching, what impressed me the most was Martin Lawrence's acting. He did a good job in portraying an over-protective father who does everything he can in order to keep his daughter close to home.
The film is about Melanie Porter (played by Raven Symone) who is in her last year of high school and is looking for potential colleges. Her father, Chief James Porter (played by Martin Lawrence) already has her future planned out for her and conflict arises when Melanie chooses to make her own decisions.
Towards the end Melanie's father eventually learns to let go and like in all Disney movies, there's a happy ending.
There were a few familiar faces like Brenda Song (better known as London Tipton from The Suite Life of Zack & Cody) who plays one of Melanie's close friends. Apart from her, I was kind of shocked by Donny Osmond's presence. He played the role of a friend that they encounter on their road trip. He probably sung in every scene which was really weird and awkward.
It was very apparent that this was a Disney movie because they had a lot of silly emotional scenes that seemed a bit excessive. The movie was a bit longer that it should have been but overall, it's a great family movie. It doesn't quite compare to other Disney movies but teens will most likely enjoy it.
Out of 5, I would probably rate this movie 3 and a half stars.
