Ode to Sleep
Your peaceful darkness, soft and gentle,
lifts me up and calms me down.
From a troubling world I am freed
as I fall slowly and deeply ...
...into a fantasy world, full of nothing -
nothing, that is, ‘cept pure rich chocolate;
here, I can eat all I want
free of guilt and pay.
...away from what has burdened me,
away from the mental pressure
To be more precise, I’m flying away
far away from calculus.
... onto a bed, warm and comfy
Surrounded by silken sheets and my lover’s arms,
to see his affectionate eyes, looking back at me,
to feel his hands softly caressing.
You offer me a world of safety, a world free of pain.
You take me in, without hesitation, no second thoughts needed.
You care not about what I’ve done, or who I am
and have no regards for my age.
Sleep – take me in and hold me gently.
Love me, like a mother loves her child.
Promise me, that someday
when my time has come
You’ll be there to free me.
