There's a Bird's Nest on my Roof
Date written:

There’s a birds nest on my roof,
Starling or sparrow.
They squawk endlessly
And eat from the wheelbarrow
There’s water in my wheelbarrow
Because of endless rain.
I would tip the water out
But the rain has been a pain.
I won’t tip out my wheelbarrow
Because it’ll just get full again
And the fill up, tip out process
Would probably drive me insane.
There are mosquitoes in my backyard
Growing in still water.
I dare not open my door
For fear of the slaughter.
The birds are full,
The mosquitoes frightened,
I watched from inside
While the sky lightened.
Watched the flit and flutter
Of wings in the twilight;
Two would-be predators
Trying to get a bite.
I can’t recall what came first,
As the day begins its clatter.
The mosquitoes or the birds
But really, does it matter?
Outside I see the panoply
Of life and death unfold.
I sit inside, quietly,
And watch as the story is told.
I try not to let it bother me
That I do not belong
As I sit inside and listen
To the trilling of birdsong.
Starling or sparrow.
They squawk endlessly
And eat from the wheelbarrow
There’s water in my wheelbarrow
Because of endless rain.
I would tip the water out
But the rain has been a pain.
I won’t tip out my wheelbarrow

And the fill up, tip out process
Would probably drive me insane.
